Reinforcing steel turns concrete into reinforced concrete. This wisdom has, as is well-known, its origins in the 19th century when engineers like Monier, Lambot, Hyatt etc. (to name only a few) established the basis for iron concrete, which created the beginning of further developments in reinforced concrete. Since then, developments have essentially been divided between the areas of steel manufacturing technology and the modelling of load-bearing behaviour. Particularly in the last few decades, attention has been paid to environmental influences (air pollution) plus the development of surface shape and delivery form.
