Efforts have been continuing for years to promote the recycling of demolished mineral building materials. The recommendation of the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects, SIA 162/4 ‘Recycling Concrete’, which was based on the support structure standard SIA 160, was published as early as 1994. In order to clarify these regulations and to serve as an aid to the dimensioning of recycling concrete, taking into account present-day knowledge, the SIA Bulletin MB 2030 was published in February 2010. (The French version was published in June 2010). This bulletin is intended to enable the safe use of recycling concrete in concrete construction as a supplement to the present support structure standard SIA 262. In a short form it lists the definitions and the most important mechanical properties of recycling concrete as well as initial dimensioning principles. Furthermore it indicates possible uses. It is aimed at planners, clients and authorities as well as at demoli - tion, treatment and concrete manufacturing companies and at building contractors. The stipulations set out in the bulletin are presented below.
