The Hanseatic city of Hamburg is gaining an incomparable landmark in the Elbharmonie. The building is currently growing out of the Kaiserspeicher A (Kaiser warehouse A). The warehouse was built between 1963 and 1966 with an austere brick appearance according to plans by the architect Werner Kallmorgen. The Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron are now erecting a spectacular concert hall on top of the building at the tip of the Sandtor harbour. Although the mighty, prominent building has been completely gutted, the cubature and the façade have been retained. A worldwide unique architectural hybrid will have been created by 2011, and will additionally be supplemented by a 5-star hotel and 47 apartments.
