Dubai Metro – a challenging concreteconstruction project

Dubai city, the capital of the Emirate Dubai within the United Arab Emirates, is one of the fastest growing cities in the Middle East. One driv - ing factor, the booming construction business, is omnipresent all over the city with the enormous number of high rise building construction sites and the paramount construction of the Burj Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Palm Deira, Dubai water front …etc. The statistical evidence for the rapid developments in commercial activities, business and tourism is the growth rate of Dubai’s population. In 2006 the population grew by 292’000 reaching a total of 1.422 million parts of the 5.19 million for the UAE population in 2007, popula tions growth is currently around 6% and increasing, making the city one of the fastest growing urban areas in the world, simultaneously the number of registered vehicles increased by 278’867. These trends inevitably lead to fast growing transportation needs resulting in tremendous traffic congestions everyday. In order to develop an economical as well as ecological solution for Dubai’s transportation demands a Metro system is being constructed
