Current developments in the use of steeland synthetic fibres

Applied concrete technology

The article deals with current developments in the use of steel and synthetic fibres in concrete production. The advantages and disad - vantages of different types of fibre will be demonstrated on the basis of technically relevant properties (post-cracking behaviour, tensile strength, crack width limitation, shear strength of the fibre reinforced concrete section etc.). Furthermore, possible applications for pile-supported floor slabs and ceiling slabs will be presented. The new German directive ‘Steel fibre reinforced concrete’ will be presented and the possibilities arising from it for the practical use of fibres in the production of concrete structural elements will be discussed.
