Thermoplastic lining – an alternative long termcorrosion protection of underground structures

Agru Kunststofftechnik GmbH, 4540 Bad Hall, Austria

The infrastructure installed underground for the transport of waste water and water is essential for the function of our today’s life. As water resources became more critical and environment protection has to be considered as a key target for our future, especially underground installed piping systems for the transport of waste water are recognized in many industries and communities. Static integrity, leak tightness, good flow conditions over a long period of life time are the target properties of such installations. Large investments have to be done to protect existing and new installations whereby a major focus is placed on the protection of the concrete to reach higher life times. Reduced consumption of water results and consistent increase of chemical/waste concentration are leading to significant more aggressive environment, especially in waste sewer systems. To reach a life time of 100 years in the stringent environmental condition of today’s waste water systems, besides the use of high performance concretes especially thermoplastic lining can be a solution for meet future demands.
