Alkimos is a fast growing coastal site located 40km north of Perths CBD. It is named after a Greek merchant shipping vessel which was wrekked 1963 on the coast. The wreck still exists and is the subject of many mysterious rumours and stories. Since 1996 extensive planning and consultation between owners –among them the national Water Corporation- and stakeholders has been carried out to ensure that it will become the next major regional coastal development in WA. In 2007 the Alkimos Water Alliance, which is a commercial venture involving the Water Corporation and a joint venture between Brookfield Multiplex, McMahon Contractors and Züblin and various other sub-contractors, was formed. One of the purposes of the joint venture is the extension of the existing Quinns Main Sewer, which will be connected later to the Alkimos Wastewater Treatment Plant (160 million litres per day).
