The consequence of progress made in construction – due in the main to the invention by Schwing GmbH of the first oil-hydraulic concrete pump in 1957 - was an ever greater need for concrete on building sites. But setting up building site mixing plants particularly on small sites was not worth it. This, of course, led to fresh concrete being made in central concrete production plants and its transportation to the sites.
