New efflorescence control admixturefor concrete products

BASF Construction Chemicals Europe AG, 8048 Zürich, Switzerland

Efflorescence” is a frequently observed surface defect of concrete products which has more aesthetic rather than structural consequences. However, aesthetic appeal is more and more important to differentiate in a highly competitive market environment. Especially, paving stones and slabs are nowadays mainly produced with coloured and refined surface layers to enhance the beauty of the final products. The sudden appearance of efflorescence ends up as a major headache for producers and customers undermining their desire and investment for aesthetically appealing products. Efflorescence can strongly affect the thoroughly created image of a highquality product.
