Energy-saving components are the hot topic in the building industry. For companies producing precast concrete, this represents both an opportunity and a challenge at the same time. Concrete stores energy well, but it must be insulated in order to achieve sensible heat transfer coefficients at appropriate wall thicknesses and to comply with standards. Fehr Technologies recognized this trend early on, and the company erected its first office building with insulated precast concrete walls in Paris in 2003. Fehr had this technology certified in 2009 by CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment). The company produces precast elements at five sites in France and Germany and is able to take advantage of all the benefits which industrial construction has to offer for insulated precast.
