The application of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) in a precast element plant entails an efficient manufacturing of precast elements of a high qua-lity. Building components with a complex geome-tric structure can be manufactured in one single working process and the concrete quality of the building members no longer depends on the com-pacting work. The surface of the concrete (ex-posed concrete) and the quality of the concrete covering layer (density) are generally improved by the application of an SCC. The production pro-cess is rationalized because the compacting is no longer necessary. The question, however, remains to what extent the production of precast concrete elements can be rationalized by the application of an SCC and to what extent this application is eco-nomic.
