A solidly built house built block by block – this is what impresses most owners and architects, at least in residential building. But masonry construction has also begun to see changes. In modern masonry construction, walls are being built with hardly any joints at all and the cm-thick layers of mortar which were previously used to compensate for the dimensional inaccuracies of the masonry blocks, but also acted as ‘cold bridges’ leaking energy from the building, are now a thing of the past.
