Abrasion behavior of colored concrete blocks

Performance tests

The National Institute of Industrial Technology’s technical department of Construction Pathology, which is part of INTI-Constructions, is in charge of attending queries related to pathologies affecting concrete paving blocks. It analyzes the components of the system and the conditions of its laying by inspecting the sites and carrying out laboratory tests. The most recurrent pathology identified has to do with the abrasion of the blocks due to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. In response to this pathology, the Abrasion Test has been used. This test is part of the IRAM (Argentine Institute of Normalization and Certification) Standard 11656 “Concrete paving blocks, Requirements and Methods”. The study of this pathology, allowed becoming acquainted with the performance of grey concrete paving blocks, which are the most commonly produced in Argentina.
