SCC is presently used in most European countries. Although exact statistics are not known, it has been reported that SCC is used for up to 55% of the total concrete production. At the top of the list are The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and France. Both the ready mixer producers and the precast producers are very interested in using SCC. However, one obstacle to its increase in popularity was that there so far has been lack of standardisation and practical guide-lines. Now finally the general European concrete standard EN206 includes also requirements and specifications for SCC as well as the EN-concrete testing standards [1]. The major European concrete, cement and admixture organisations (BIBM, CEMBUREAU, ERMCO, EFCA and EFNARC) have also published “The European Guidelines for Self- Compacting Concrete” in May 2005 [2]. This article describes some of the experiences of the Consolis Group, a leading European manufacturer of precast concrete, with their use of SCC.
