… reinforcement The butt joint is an economical and the common way to build precast concrete columns. The stresses in the joint area can be described with established design concepts. The design of the joint area is done as well. However, the literature lacks investigations on the cases of changing cross-sections or misalignment of the longitudinal reinforcement bars in the joint area. In this paper, experimental investigations are described which show that the load bearing capacity of the columns is reduced significantly due to these effects. To account for these effects in a design concept, further investigations are necessary.
