Nowadays in China, most of the reinforced concrete (RC) buildings are still constructed by hand on the jobsite, which often leads to a mas- sive waste of building materials, causes serious environmental pollution, and results in inferior construction quality. In order to change this situation and transform the local construction industry in a sustainable, modern and industrialized manner, prefabricated technologies, which feature energy saving and environmentally-friendly construction methods, are now greatly encouraged. In this paper, some of the currently used industrialized building systems are discussed. In addition, some of the existing problems and challenges with this rapid development are highlighted. In conclusion, the application prospects for prefabricated technologies in China are evaluated.
