Sustainability Assessment for Precast Concrete Elements

MIVES-Method

A multi-criteria decision-making method for assessing the sustainability of concrete systems and elements is proposed in this paper. This method allows considering the three main pillars of sustainability (economic, environmental and social) while taking into account those relevant indicators from the stakeholders’ point of view. This model is being developed within the scope of the fib Commission 6 Prefabrication by experts of the Task Group 6.3 Sustainability of Precast Structures. Weights’ distributions, indicators and the main elements of the model have been already fixed; this oriented to minimize the subjectivity in the sustainability assessment. Nonetheless, there are still aspects to be finished. The objective of the paper consist in presenting the advances carried out as well as in proposing an example of application related to precast concrete segmental linings for TBM-constructed tunnels. However, it should be highlighted that the model is general and this could be used to assess the sustainability of other elements (e.g. panels, girders, sewerage pipes).
