More precast structures for achieving a decarbonised building stock – the challenge of 2050

BIBM The European Federation for Precast Concrete, 1040 Brussels, Belgium

Today, concrete is the most used construction material for buildings and infrastructures due to its outstanding performances compared to competitive solutions. It is indeed the only material that provides embedded characteristics like high thermal inertia, fire resistance, extremely long service life and versatility in an affordable way. Its low environmental impacts, the local availability of raw materials and the recyclability at the end of life are key characteristics for a further use of such material in the years to come.
