Virtual Reality in Precast Concrete Production Facilities – Fiction or Reality?

In articles of this digital transformation series, Unitechnik has been examining modern digital aids and investigating their applicability. This current article will deal with the way in which virtual reality (VR) can be utilised in future in the precast concrete component industry, where virtual models have their origin and how they function. Virtual reality (VR) enables the user to be submerged in fictive surroundings. As opposed to three dimensional imaging on a screen, a user gains the impression via his VR headset that he is part of these surroundings. The viewer gets a feeling of space, distances, heights and dynamics as well. The main emphasis is not on observing the surroundings but rather of experiencing them. This technology with its origins in the gaming world can be put to very good use in designing buildings – and likewise for planning production systems.
