A series of fire tests with DELTABEAM® composite beams supporting prestressed hollowcore slabs has been carried out by Peikko. For fire design of steel or composite beams like the Deltabeam in combination with hollowcore slabs in a slab system, the issues “indirect” and “flexible” support must be considered. A test program of single hollowcore slab unit shear tests and system fire tests has been carried out to assess these issues for a safe and economic design. This article presents the background, results, and conclusions of this test program.
