FDS air tube formwork – new simple groutingalternative to thixotropic mortar

The German governmental building authority approval for the wire rope system, called the “VS System” by Pfeifer Seil- und Hebetechnik GmbH in Memmingen, shows small differences in design resistance between grouting and a plastic mortar pressed into the VS joints. The expected resistance is smaller with the plastic mortar as it is liable not to fill out the joints completely. A still greater difference occurs with other competitors’ systems. This is due to the fact that the viscous material of the plastic or thixotropic mortar – comparable to the consis - tency of toothpaste – cannot completely envelop all corners and hollow spaces. This means, in turn, that unfilled areas remain that do not effectively transfer loading. FDS
