A construction project of remarkable dimensions is currently being carried through in The Netherlands. Going by the name of “Maasvlakte 2”, this project’s purpose is to enlarge the Rotterdam harbour. By pumping sand from the North Sea to the coast, large tracts of land are being reclaimed, which will considerably expand Rotterdam harbour’s industrial and port area. Enormous steel reinforced concrete cantilever retaining walls anchored in the subsurface are being created for the harbour basin. A mobile concrete production facility has been set up in the construction site’s vicinity for producing the concrete. Here, a twin-shaft batch mixer from BHS-Sonthofen has been manufacturing concrete for this giant-scale project seven days a week since May 2010.
