New Planning Software for Heavy Lift Application

In order to eliminate any contingencies, every project requires thorough planning before it is realized. Especially the planning of heavy lifts can become a tricky job. The Crane Planner 2.0 from Liebherr helps to find solutions and to successfully master the lift. The new CP mobile app delivers the most important data of the lift planning directly to the user’s mobile device.

The organization of a jobsite is a complex task. Often there is a lack of necessary space, the ground conditions are demanding or the crane has a limited lifting capacity. Under such conditions, the Crane Planner 2.0 is a useful tool for choosing the correct equipment for each load scenario. This does not only save time and money but also ensures that safety standards for heavy lift applications are adhered to.

Crane Planner 2.0 - an Intelligent Software for Challenging Lifting Operation

The Crane Planner 2.0 combines highly detailed, interactive 3D models with all the relevant planning data, based on the Load Moment Limiter (LML) of the respective machine. This combination is a considerable added value of the Crane Planner 2.0 as opposed to conventional lift planning using CAD applications. Every change in the crane geometry activates a new calculation of all planning data. The software gives a warning as soon as the risk of a potential collision between machine, load or surroundings exists, or if safety distances are not observed. Parameters such as ground pressure, utilization, centre of gravity and erectability are constantly monitored. Furthermore, important information such as lifting height or radius can be activated and user-specified measurements (metric or imperial) can be appropriately defined. After planning, the results can be simply and clearly printed or shared with others in a cloud.

Therefore, the Crane Planner 2.0 is the ideal tool for planners and engineers who require not only actual but also precise 3D models of the machine configuration being used. Through the use of the most current machine data all configurations of all available crawler cranes and duty cycle crawler cranes in all positions can be selected. According to the crane experts in Nenzing this is a unique service for customers, which can only be offered by Liebherr.

Helpful Functions for Intuitive Operation

Using “Quick Config” the user can quickly alter various crane configurations during the planning stage, (for example, the length of the main boom from 62 m to 71 m), and then let the system recalculate the complete lift.
The “Rigging Editor” enables a general definition of the lifting devices. Users can choose from six different models and specify heights, lengths, breadths and weights of the chosen lifting devices as required. Based on these specific criteria the system calculates the consequential forces, angles and lengths. At the same time, the resulting geometry is considered in order to assess possible collisions.

Planning data such as load capacity, distribution of the ground pressure, and specific information about the geometry can be exported to a lifting plan for all defined working processes. Additionally, the “Report Designer” allows the combined export of technical drawings and relevant planning data in PDF format. The measuring functions and the various import and export options are purposefully tailored to meet the requirements of modern lift planning.

Different Output Formats make the Lift Planning both Perceptible and Mobile

Virtual Reality is an enhancement of the existing Crane Planner 2.0 with the help of which the planned project, including crane, load and surroundings, can be experienced in virtual 3D space. During the planning phase, it is possible to survey the whole project, to operate the machines, and to directly experience the planned working processes from lifting to setting down the load. In “Ego Mode” the observer can move freely in the virtual area and view the project from all angles. Thus, a completely new spatial understanding of the jobsite and the technical interdependencies can be achieved.

Important data are always quickly and easily at hand with the new “CP mobile” app. Here you can find all Liebherr LR and HS machines built in or after 2002, including all lift charts available in the field. After selecting the appropriate crane and relevant load, ground pressure calculations can be quickly and easily carried out without costly planning. Furthermore, the result can be professionally prepared and exported as a report. Therefore, you always have your most important lifts with you on your mobile device, wherever you are.
