Concrete is grey – at least in its original condition. Fair-faced concrete in architecture can be red or yellow or black, or it can have any colour in various shades. Colour is an essential design feature of buildings and engineering structures made of fair-faced concrete: It underlines the expression and even dominates the effect of facades and interior rooms, regardless of whether they are made of in-situ concrete or pre- cast elements, from thin fibre cement panels or decorative shaped parts. Colouring takes place using inorganic pigments, which are added to the concrete during the course of the usual manufacturing process. High quality inorganic oxide pigments from the special chemical company Lanxess have proved themselves in the building industry. A concrete dyed with these colour pigments not only fulfils differing aesthetic demands, extending as far as the custom object-related colour, but also contributes to the meeting of high technical, economical and ecological requirements.
