In 1959, Mr Ali Yousif Hassan started operations with a small concrete block production facility and a quarry in Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the Arabian Gulf. Just three years later, the facility was modified for semi-automatic operations and quarry capacity increased. The company became known under the name of Al Manaratain, which translated means two minarets, as the firm was located directly adjacent to a mosque. The two minarets still remain today as the Al Manaratain company logo. Mr Hassan had already recognised the fact that manufacturing high-grade quality products and a comprehensive range of services are the best guarantee for a successful business and growth. And Al Manaratain indeed has known constant growth through following this philosophy. During the mid-1970s, other quarries were opened up and concrete block production was carried on with a total of nine egg layers.
