Leak tests on concrete and steel reinforced concretepipes taking into consideration the work-sheet

Surveyor’s Office Dr.-Ing. Olaf Kaufmann, 44787 Bochum, Germany

In April 1998 DIN 4033 [1] was finally replaced by DIN EN 1610 [2], making it possible for the first time in the Federal Republic of Germany to carry out leak tests using air overpressure as the test medium in addition to the conventional water pressure test. This applies both to leak tests per manhole spacing or per section and to the testing of individual pipe joints. In June 2001 the abwassertechnische Vereinigung (ATV) [Wastewater Association] published the ATV-DVWK worksheet A 139 ‘Laying and testing of wastewater pipes and sewers’ [3], which served at national level as a supplement to and explanation of DIN EN 1610. This regulation was re-vised by the DWA workgroup ES-5.1 ‘General guidelines for the construction of drainage sys-tems’ in the DWA Committee of Experts ES-5 ‘Construction’ and was put up for discussion as a yellow paper in May 2008 [4].
