Tensile performance of grouted splice connectorsin precast concrete structures

Precast connection detailing

This paper presents the test results of twelve grouted splice connectors, made from standard sized steel sections and tested under incremental tensile load to failure. Their configurations were varied to compare their effects on tensile performance. The specimens were evaluated based on load-displacement relationships, ultimate capacities, maximum displacement at failure and ductility ratio. It is recognized from the failure modes that grout-rebar bond, grout-sleeve bond, tensile capacity of sleeve and tensile capacity of the spliced steel bars are the factors that govern the capacity of the splice connector and which should be taken into account during future developments of grout splice connectors.
