This report in the series "Increasing Productivity and Quality Management" addresses the question of whether the use of touchscreens to control the circulation of pallets in precast facilities is worthwhile. At management level, touchscreens are now commonplace. From the ERP system to the host computer, many functions can be accessed from a mobile and are easy to use. Until now, touchpanels have rarely been found in production environments - even though they have significant advantages over traditional control units: graphical visualization facilitates the operation of the equipment, which not only reduces the learning curve but also the number of incorrect entries. The screen provides important information on the spot for diagnosing faults, which significantly reduces costly downtimes.
