When Rob Heemskerk’s father launched his precast concrete steps business in Calgary, Canada, in 1973 it was just in time to catch one of the biggest housing booms to hit the Alberta province in the last 40 years. The boom rolled on for more than 10 years, finally crashing on the shores of the early 1980s recession.
