Global Foundries, the leading semiconductor maker in the world with plants in the United States, Germany and Singapore, is constructing a $4.2 billion manufacturing facility in upstate New York. Slated to open within three years, the new site is expected to be the world’s most technologically advanced semiconductor manufacturing operation as well as the largest of its kind in the United States. Specializing in projects for technology based clients, M+W Group chose precast concrete for the facility to ensure building stability and vibration free manufacturing in the nanometer range, where any vibration would destroy the product. Unistress Corporation in Pittsfield, Massachusetts is supplying the precast elements, including slabs for an innovative flooring design.
