In the year 2002, Iacobas Construct S.R.L, a Moldavian company headed by the Grican brothers, began manufacturing concrete products. Paving blocks, slabs, fencing elements and figurines made from concrete were produced using the wet-cast method. In this process, concrete is poured into the available moulds and hardens in the same. This may be a customary procedure if it is merely a matter of producing decorative objects in small batch sizes. However, it is hardly possible to manufacture mass goods economically in this manner as the amount of moulds and the effort needed would be too great. In 2008, Iacobas came to the decision to embrace manufacturing concrete blocks with a palletised block-making machine, which led the company to purchase a complete block-making system of German make. This plant had been supplied to Switzerland at the end of the 1980’s and is still in good condition thanks to the care taken by its previous owner.
