Rationalisation in precast constructionthrough prefabricated connecting joints

Pfeifer Seil- und Hebetechnik GmbH, 87700 Memmingen, Germany

In steel reinforced concrete construction one usually speaks of a monolithic construction method. Structural elements such as floors, columns, beams, joists, foundations and wall elements are directly cast together in one piece. The reinforcement for the transmission of tensile forces in the steel reinforced concrete is continuous from one structural element to another. Monolithically planned steel reinforced concrete constructions are often replanned as precast constructions. Connecting joints with zero moments and shear force maxima are the rule and determine the dimensions or even supporting structures. This often causes difficulties. The better way is therefore to plan for the precast construction method right from the design stage. All precast parts can then be designed such that forces, in terms of type, size and direction, are transmitted via the connecting joints.
