Since 1985, the Pune based company B.G. Shirke has been a pioneer in the Indian precast industry. Nowadays the company enjoys a consolidated position as a leading Indian precast producer with a special strength in large low costs housing projects, which are normally funded by state development programmes. These government tenders often require the contractor to produce large quantities of housing units in a relatively short time period, which is one of the main reasons these projects are carried out by using precast technology. One of the latest projects of this kind is promoted by CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation) of the Maharashtra state government and takes place in Taloja (Navi Mumbai) where B.G. Shirke now has the task of constructing 15,000 houses within a 2 year time span.
