Construction components have multi-functional properties

Tomorrow’s Precast Component Industry – Part 2/8

Load-bearing construction components can be successfully manufactured using concrete as a material in conjunction with embedded steel inserts. This material combination has become widely acclaimed through building structures with large span widths or slender cross sections (e.g. bridges). Concrete’s excellent formability, in particular with e.g. shell load-bearing structures, is well known as the hallmark of this composite construction material. As yet, other optional characteristics of concrete have been much less well known up to now. The construction material is both a good heat conductor and a good heat accumulator. This property has been known for over 100 years but has only been implemented in a professional and economic way since approx. 1970 in the form of building component activation.
