Construx-Weckenmann, the precast moulds and machinery manufacturer based in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands re-engineered the way of manufacturing prestressed beams. The customer insisted on getting a flexible and affordable solution for the manufacturing of their different types of standardized prestressed rectangular beams. He also preferred to invest in moulds and machines, rather than to invest in foundation works for abutments, which would limit the flexibility of a future expansion. To meet these requirements, Construx-Weckenmann suggested a 40m long two-gang mould, of which both pockets can be used independently. Construx-Weckenmann designed the prestressing lines as self-reacting beds, this means that the beds take all the prestressing forces, and no abutments are required.
