Sustainability potentials of the precast industry in West Africa

Industry review, Part 2

The West African construction market is growing at rapid pace, with Nigeria leading the transition from mixing and casting concrete on site to the more efficient precast technology. While precast construction is definitively growing in the region with increasing importance due to the rapid urbanization and the need for fast infrastructure enhancements (Fig. 1), there are still a variety of challenges, which have been discussed in the first part of this article (CPI, issue 6, 2023). Despite the challenges the rapid growth of the business offers many degrees of freedom to implement innovative and greener technologies, and, thus, to pioneer sustainable construction for a growing urban population.
