The construction industry is changing at a rapid pace, faster than at any point in recent history. The focus on sustainable building materials is a major factor, but this is occurring along with persistent labor shortages and rapidly rising materials costs. The tools used to make durable and sustainable concrete are also changing. Fly ash is becoming less available as coal power production is being phased out (often before government mandated deadlines) and GGBS (slag) is expected to be more difficult to source. Portland limestone cement (PLC) is seeing increased use, and, in some regions, “old fashioned” GU or Type 1 cement will soon be unavailable.
