The use of alternative energies is more than ever before a subject with which people all over the world will increasingly concern them - selves in order to reduce dependency on fossil fuels in the future. 110 years ago, long before CO2 emission was well known, the Rheinfelden river power station in Baden-Württemberg went into service as the pioneer in European electricity generation from regenerative energies. The machine house of the new Rheinfelden power station, which was commenced in 2003, is under construction just 800 metres upstream, directly on the German-Swiss border.
