Sealing systems for pipe and manhole joints between concrete structural elements are subject to a large number of European and national standards. EN 681-1 and DIN 4060 define the requirements for the quality of the elastomers that ensure the secure sealing of the pipe and manhole joints over the entire service life of the structure. The quality of the concrete is governed by EN 1916 for pipes and EN 1917 for manholes. In addition to these there are national supplementary standards. Further higher demands on the seal and the pipe and manhole quality are governed by concrete associations, such as the FBS Bonn in Germany.
