Effect of Temperature, Time and Waiting Conditionson the Rheology of Self-Compacting Concrete

Part 1/2: Mortar Response

The environmental conditions, and especially ambient temperature, significantly influence the fresh behavior of self-compacting concrete and, consequently, the material characteristics during production. Along these lines, the present work evaluates the effect of the temperature on the fresh properties of mortar from SCC, considering a wide range of temperatures (10-40ºC). The mortar used was prepared according to the material proportions of self-compacting concretes evaluated in the second part of this study. Rheological parameters, as well as engineering- type tests, were evaluated along time, considering different waiting conditions (stationary and continuous stirring). Results show a significant influence of temperature on the rheological parameters, especially on plastic viscosity, concluding that its influence has to be considered during production.
