The Sultanate of Oman occupies a strategic location on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Oman has a population of about 2,500,000 people, of which about 600,000 are foreign workers. The people enjoy a good standard of living with excellent health care and educational possibilities. The economy is based on oil, but the proven reserves are not very large. However the Ruler of Oman, his Excellency Sultan Quboos Bin Al Said has instigated a national plan to develop the country’s large gas reserves, its mineral resources, its industrial base and especially its wonderful tourism potential. The capital Muscat is a modern city with a booming economy and a strong demand for housing and industrial building. More than half the population lives in Muscat and its environs and many infrastructural projects are planned.
