The face of the realty market in India has changed rapidly over the past few years. Large projects comprising townships, mass housing, IT/ITES parks and SEZ's are a common feature nowadays and will tend to grow exponentially in the near future. The majority of such projects is still being constructed using conventional methods. Thus, the inherent advantages that these projects offer in terms of repetition and huge volume turnover still remain unexploited. In addition, these large-scale projects constructed using conventional methods complicate project management in terms of construction speed and quality. Precast concrete technology, the so called unconventional method in an Indian context, can facilitate both speed and quality of construction activities and at the same time make use of the advantages that these large-scale projects offer in terms of volume turnover and repetitive operations. With the changing face of the Indian realty sector, changes in construction methodologies are inevitable. This paper aims at demonstrating the way in which the precast concrete technology can be efficiently and effectively used in the context of various Indian projects when taking a closer look at projects already being executed.
