With an area of 780 km² and approx. 60,000 inhabitants, the Arab emirate Umm Al Quwain is the smallest of the United Arab Emirates, which consist of 7 emirates in all. Located directly on the Arabian Gulf around 40 km to the north of Dubai, Umm Al Quwain has developed in recent years into a water sports centre; new hotels, new roads and an improved infrastructure have made this development possible. The industrial development of the emirate Umm Al Quwain was shaped among others by Mr. Abdul Rahman Al Zarooni. Mr. Zarooni began with the production of concrete blocks in 1975. Production began with a simple brick press with a board size sufficient for a hollow building block with a manually actuated tamper head. The boards with the products were manually placed on the ground for drying; the blocks were manually stacked after drying and the empty boards carried back to the machine. In the next step, semi-automatic mobile block machines were used. This was the foundation stone for the development of a very successful company history.
