Accurate prediction of compressivestrength in concrete structures

Precast production control

During the last decades, the concrete maturity method has been developed and used as one of the most favoured methods to estimate insitu concrete strength. To establish the concrete strength-maturity model, the concrete trial room in a laboratory environment was air-conditioned to achieve a cyclic environment condition, simulating the low curing temperature (5°C ~ 15°C) in winter and higher temperature (22°C ~ 34°C) in summer. A temperature-matched curing system was applied to secure sufficient cylinders for testing compressive strength with time. Simultaneously, the maturity was calculated by the Saul-Nurse maturity function to develop the strength-maturity models, which were further assessed by field trials prior to the field application. It was noted that strength-maturity models built were valid to estimate the early age strength with an error of 5%.
