Development of the African Concrete Code

CPI-series on International standards and specifications, Part 1/3

The international concrete industry currently experiences a time of major changes in codes and specifications. The general trend follows an internationalization of standards for concrete structures, resulting in the recent development of the Asian Concrete Code, the current updating of the Eurocode and the fib model code, as well as the recent establishment of the African Concrete Code Committee. In a series of 3 consecutive papers, CPI discusses these developments. Part 1 discusses general issues concerning code development and gives an overview on the work of the African Concrete Code Committee and a short introduction to the Asian Concrete Code. Parts 2 and 3 will discuss the Eurocode and fib model code, respectively.
