Applications, prospects and challenges

Although the growth of the precast industry in Brazil over recent years has been in part influenced by the forthcoming major sports events, the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, which have not only generated the need for the construction of stadiums, but also new facili- ties, such as airports in the major capitals and others related to urban mobility, they have also been employed in residential buildings, roads and other infrastructure. Brazil is a developing country that needs, in particular, to develop its infrastructure, which is currently insufficient for the demands of transporting its agricultural production, causing enormous logistical problems and high transport costs due to a lack of ports, roads and railways.
