The topic of sustainability is gaining increasingly greater importance in all areas of life. This is also a reason why standards for sustainable concrete production have been further developed in the past few years. One aim has been to link them with two classification systems: LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology). The Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC), an international organisation for concrete sustainability, was founded in 2016 in the pursuit of this aim. The CSC project was initiated by the CSI (Cement Sustainability Initiative) of the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development). The CSC is composed of three committees (executive, technical and communication committee), who have designed a certification system and are ensuring that it meets the market’s requirements as well. They are also responsible for advancing the CSC system’s development and its related processes. Kiwa is one of the founding members of the CSC and is also member of the executive and technical committees. The CSC has undertaken the task of creating an international standard – the CSC Label – as a strong mark of rated quality for producing concrete in a responsible and sustainable manner.
