The measures and the expenditure for the load securing of packagable concrete goods can be affected by the value of the sliding friction coefficient. So far one has had to rely on very general sliding friction coefficients from literature or such that have been determined on the basis of outdated measuring methods. The results of extensive investigations at the Fraunhofer Institute of Material Handling and Logistics – Packaging Test Centre, Dortmund, have shown among other things that the sliding friction coefficients of load units of packagable concrete goods – as they actually arise in loading practice as a result of the usual contamination due to concrete and aggregate particles as well as dust – are sometimes significantly higher than the values indicated up to now in literature. In the practice of loading packagable concrete products this can partly lead – after making appropriate calculations of the securing required – to a significant reduction of the load securing expenditure. This results in savings of time and costs for the loader while maintaining the necessary safety level.
