The robot-based research facility CREATE at Ruhr University Bochum investigates how adaptive concrete modules can be manufactured in the future in an automated, digitally controlled, and quality-assured way (see the detailed report starting on page 192 in this issue). An important component of this research facility is the curing chamber. Anyone seeing the equipment for the first time immediately understands how it earned its nickname. Two large, heated plates, a compact chamber and an automated handling system make it look remarkably like an oversized waffle iron. In reality, however, it is a purpose-built testing system for concrete technology.
