Although no imminent end of petroleum and natural gas extraction is envisaged, efforts are now being made to direct private and public investment into other economic sectors. Prospering - and competing - hubs like Doha or Abu Dhabi are developing at a rapid pace into centres for sports, leisure, finance and education. As a consequence, the further expansion of relevant infrastructure measures is vitally important.
